The Nut Job opening weekend was $19,423,000. Where is the author getting his information? For that Matter Free Birds opened to $15,805,237. $1.2 million off from Book of Life. The critics can say what they want, but if you are going by the numbers BOL has a long way to go to get to Free Birds $110,387,072 worldwide total. I haven't seen BOL yet, but I am looking
forward to it. Whether it propels Reel FX into greatness will be seen.

I can tell you right now that "Fox had very few notes for Book of Life" is blatantly false.

I really want Reel FX to succeed as another big animation studio in the US. But Reel FX will only be successful if they work on movies with strong stories. This really goes for all types of movies. The animation film world if flooded with bad story movies to the point that you can only trust that Disney, Pixar and Dreamworks will more than likely have a movie worth your time and money. They have proven that they have the talent and technology to make a movie look good, but I hope they learn from this experience that the story has to be great. Book of Life is so good because it was a story worked on for years by a passionate director. Free Birds was a flop because the story fell flat. Also, they are not a company like Disney/Pixar with their own distributor. They don't get to call the shots and the distributor holds too much power. I have heard that Relativity was making constant story changes for the worse during Free Birds production and Fox had very few notes for Book of Life. So sure they can make any movie and make some amount of money, but if they really want SUCCESS then they have to make movies with a strong story.

The upcoming films sound fantastic. It sounds like Reel FX is looking at animation the way that Brad Bird describes in the commentary for "The Incredibles," as an art form that can tackle any genre & any type of story there is. It's exciting to think that there's an animated horror movie in development, as well as an animated cop movie/fantasy. There's so much potential in animated films in other genres that has been, for the most part, untapped, and it's great to see that Reel FX is going in that direction.

And am I alone in hoping that the DeVito project turns out to be animated? A Danny DeVito-directed animated film sounds really intriguing!
