Both animation fans and comic fans already know of the collaboration and the history behind the film. With Marvel stepping back, not only does it let Disney have more artistic license with the movie but it probably allows hardcore Marvel fans (more specifically Big Hero 6 fans) to be somewhat more forgiving to what the final product ends up being.

On the flip side, Disney animation fans can probably enjoy the movie more without having the idea of this being an animated version of a typical comic book movie without having a Marvel banner hanging over their heads.
