Japan has a petition going to get HTTYD 2 in theatres because so far 20 century fox has no plans of showing it in Japan (it seems the first one wasn’t a big hit). They did this with Hot Fuzz and it worked so maybe.

So glad this movie got the recognition it deserved! I hope they keep it up for the third movie.

On a side note, here’s an interesting observation. Notice how HTTYD2 and Kung Fu Panda 2 are very similar to one another. Both are considered two of DreamWorks most critically acclaimed sequels, both were released on the same weekend as a R-rated comedy and lost to said comedy, and both didn’t earn as much as their predecessor domestically, yet outperformed them internationally.

BTW has anyone else noticed that HTTYD3 is coming out on the same weekend as Finding Dory? Hoooo boy. That’s gonna be one heck of a fierce competition.

In reply to Benjamin Boekelaar. Agreed. I'm so glad it's doing well overseas because for this series to end with just two films would've been upsetting. This movie was really good and I actually enjoyed it more than the first. Still baffles me it didn't do so hot domestically, but i guess it doesn't matter anymore

I can not believe this movie didn’t take off like a rocket, I mean it’s so AWESOME!!!!
Tear-jerking and heartbreaking, but at the same time visually breathtaking and beautiful in all ways! I seriously wonder how they plan to surpass themselves with Part 3!

It’s actually really quite good and a worthy sequel, I’m shocked more people haven’t seen it. I’m really glad it’s performing really well world wide, I would hate to not see the third film.

This is great for Dreamoworks! Even though the movie’s box-office is still disappointing, at least we can say that it didn’t flop!

Yay! I was so disappointed with the domestic results and scared because this franchise has such a strong following; it would be terrible for this franchise to just die right in the 2nd act.
