There was going to be an Aladdin Blu-Ray release this Fall. Instead they’re doing Sleeping Beauty for a second time on Blu-Ray to be released with Maleficent on Blu-Ray. Make of that what you will.

It really is a very good movie. Mickey & pals are loaded with personality – as much as they’ve had possibly ever, before Paul Rudish started his new shorts, anyway. It’s so charming, so well animated, and the story is nice and tight. It’s very good. Also, the Beagle boys make a comeback! First time they’ve been in any Disney anything since Ducktales!

Agreed. It makes me wonder if they will take further advantage and re release it in theaters for that very reason.

I wouldn’t be surprised if we suddenly got an announcement of Aladdin’s Blu-ray release soon. Not to make light of the situation (but just speaking honestly from Disney’s marketing perspective), I bet Disney is kicking themselves that they didn’t have it out already.

My prediction is that we’ll get the Blu-ray in February 2015 now.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m pleased to see Hercules and Tarzan, as well as the rest being released, but it really irks me that there has been no word of an Aladdin re release. Two years ago, I was sure that they were waiting for the broadway musical to release so that they could bolster each other, but here we are, months out from the musical’s premiere, and still nothing to be seen. There was supposed to be a 3D release in theaters, but that was cancelled along with The Little Mermaid, so there was no DVD release to go with that. I’m holding out hope that they may possibly have decided to do a theatrical re release in the future and are waiting for a DVD to go along with that. But especially in the wake of Robin Williams’ death, it makes me sad that Aladdin has been in the vault for 10 years.

Is it on blu ray as well? Or just regular DVD?

It’s actually a pretty good price. Best buy is selling it for 22.99. Also it says it’s a 2 movie collection….but it’s really 3. The Reluctant Dragon comes as a special feature. Pick it up!
