…..I haven’t been successful at keeping up with the re-showing of the old episodes, and completely spaced on the first episode; so once I do watch the film, I’ll probably have a better idea of how to express what complex, conflicting emotions I have been experiencing regarding Sailor Moon and it’s strange feminist/traditional feminine roles dichotomy.

I’m certainly interested in the new version of “Sailor Moon” and anticipating how they’ll be telling stories different from the original anime/manga. Having watched the transformations back-to-back, I do have mixed feelings about the new transformations. The celestial sparkling background looks great and the updated ribbon motif appear fluid. But I have to agree with Morgan about the new Sailor Moon’s “spaghetti” body proportions take getting used to. There’s almost too much spinning going on in the new transformation–I must be so used to the original transformations. But I think overall it’s going to be a good show with a few surprises for the fans.

I’m not into the CG model. I don’t like it when CG is mixed with traditional animation. It looks lazy and is extremely distracting. Either by itself is fine.

Just like modern action films that rely too much on CG, we didn’t need to see her skirt from 5 different angles. The rotating camera is annoying. Other parts reminded me too much of the transformation of the cat-girl on Summer Wars.

The original is still the best because it gets to the point, it doesn’t rely on bells and whistles, and it’s 10 seconds shorter.

despite the beautiful colours, I still prefer the old 1, because the use of 3d painted 2D in the new transformation made it look a bit “unfluid” as compared to the old hand drawn version o.o
