The reason that this movie, just like Mulan, is so underrated is because it didn’t gross like The Lion King did. Disney tried the epic film over and over to copy the success of TLK, but it just never took hold. Maybe the public just got too tired of the same type of film over and over…

I think Tarzan is overlooked by fans simply because of when it was released, as after the big hits of Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, and the Lion King, the films began to loose their touch. I still love Pocahontas, Hercules and the Hunchback of Notre Dame, but I think they don’t have the same oomph that the first four had. However with that being said I think that Mulan and Tarzan match the quality of the first four films, almost. It’s like they’re ‘One Jump Ahead’ Pocahontas, Hunchback, and Hercules, but one behind Lion King, Aladdin, and so fourth. Both films did well at the box office though! I think Mulan gained near what Mermaid did, and Tarzan did close to what Beauty and the Beast did, which is pretty awesome! I remember seeing the trailers for both films and knowing there was something special. I think Tarzan needs more than the tree house at Disneyland! And Mulan defiantly needs more than a meet and greet!

I LOVE Tarzan! Having been born in 1996, some of my earliest memories relate to the latter Renaissance films, especially Mulan and Tarzan. As cheesy as it sounds, every time I listen to the Tarzan soundtrack, I bawl. There is simply so much emotion behind the story, the music, and the animation. Re-watching Tarzan nowadays I feel the same things I felt then. I never will understand why it, along with the rest of the latter renaissance and a few of the post-Tarzan films, aren’t appreciated more.

I saw it recently on Netflix and I agree it shouldn’t be underrated! I mean its a genius movie I think and its so interesting and pulls you in!

Is Tarzan even old enough to warrant a Diamond Edition? I am by no means an expert on Disney and the billion different versions of the movies they make, but I was under the impression that it was the older movies that got released on Diamond? Tarzan is only what 15 years old?

Personally I don’t care for Tarzan, for me it is a “meh” movie. I would much rather watch Emperor’s New Grove or Hercules (now that is a criminally underrated movie)

i just wish Disney can beautifully create another movie that can be looked at as a classic without hesitating. i mean i personally enjoy Frozen a lot, but it is just not a masterpiece. I would say the same about Tangled but i feel Tangled does have the qualities of being a masterpiece but its movies like Tarzan that i can look at and know Disney has created something marvelous here.

This is like them ignoring Treasure planet, Atlantis and other good films, I think Disney mostly ignore the films that they can’t sell toys merchandise and so on.(despite it having it’s own tv series)

Tarzan IS no doubt a great movie, but I’ve got a feeling this is all coming from how well-liked and popular Frozen is. Frozen did amazing, and now some of those that really loved a couple older, less popular classics are head over heels defending it (like the ‘Lion King has the best music’ post).
It’s alright to love different movies. I personally love Frozen. Others love this. Others love Transformers (red light!).
