This is cool! Will you guys be covering already completed indie animation, or will you perhaps be showcasing "work-in-progress" indie animation too? Y'know, like stuff on Kickstarter currently?

I've only just discovered the site and your Youtube Channel (Thank you, "Recommended Videos" Sidebar), so maybe I just haven't poked around enough yet and I can find out for myself in due time :)

In reply to <a href="https://www.rotoscopers.com/2014/06/27/introducing-indie-mation-a-new-roto-space-for-independent-animation/#comment-9204">Ranting Swede</a>.

"Rules? We don't need no stinking rules!" hahaha jk. In general, I think what we are looking for is films that are obviously not part of the mainstream consciousness. So typically if it has a WIDE release, it can be covered on the larger part of the site. If the film is doing a festival run, is from a brand new studio, is a student film (and is being shown either online, festivals etc.), or has only been released at arthouse cinemas (think IFC, Sundance, Sunshine), then that's what we want.

But to be honest, because this is so new, we're just kind of open to what people would like to suggest and adjust as we go along. Special attention will be paid to films with current festival runs/screenings that also have online trailers or press materials, but we are open to anything!

And thank you for these suggestions! We will look into these as soon as we can!

Are there rules on what counts as indie animation or not? I've got a list of foreign animation companies which I would love to be highlighted but they probably don't always fit under the indie category. For instance, I would suggest the works of Mamoru Hosoda who could very well become the next Hayao Miyazaki but his works would be considered mainstream in Japan.

I think Cartoon Saloon, which is Irish, probably counts as indie. They made the gorgeous The Secret of Kells, several interesting and bizarre shorts based on Irish and Eskimo folklore, and their next feature film Song of the Sea is apparently wrapping up production this year.
