I saw the trailer before HttYD2 yesterday, and I have to say it didn’t look terrible. It was a little creepy, I guess, but they seemed to do a pretty great job with the animation, too-real-texture aside.

It’s also EXTRAORDINARILY backwards. So much of a performance stems from a voice actor in the very best animation. Imagine the Genie in Aladdin if the lines had been written and animated and they had someone just match the existing lip-sync. Horrific.

This is a terrible, terrible thing. The right thing to do would be to start over with the new actor’s voice and new acting choices. Sadly it’s unlikely that will happen, which means this will be a mismatch of acting.

I don’t blame Firth at all. I wouldn’t want to be associated with this garbage at all. Smart move on his part.

Good riddance. Though of course we could be settled with something worse so we can’t have it either way I guess.

Of course I’m reminded of the voice they gave him in the animated “Cinar Films” cartoon series just now, that sorta fit my idea of a naive Peruvian bear personally.

Wow, that was…unfortunate. I agree that Colin Firth’s voice doesn’t fit, but if only they realized that earlier on.

Why don’t they get someone to narrate the movie rather than a voice for the bear, like the original, they could use anyone with a british accent, even me

I guess Colin Firth As Paddington was back when the project actually resembled the books.
