Not that the dragon-themed animation will not encounter any competition when it moved its release date a year after as "The Lego Movie 3" will reportedly debut on the 26th of May, hence the weekend would basically be a competition between the two films.
Thus, it's safe to assume that DreamWorks Animation is confident that it'll put up a good fight with "The Lego Movie 3."
Originally, the "How To Train Your Dragon" franchise is set as a trilogy, but following the release of the second sequel word has it that the Animation studio is already considering a fourth sequel claiming that the writer/director for both of the Dragon films, Dean DeBlois, has opened his door for the possibility of the fourth sequel.

Well I think HTTYD2 will do great, and a third movie would be awesome! I would love to know Hiccup and Toothless's life after the surprising ending the second one had! However, I don't think a fourth one is necessary. I would love a third one! But in my opinion, a fourth would just be too much. But you know, that's what I think now! I mean who knows, maybe after the third one, I'll want a fourth one! We'll just have to wait until 2016.

In reply to <a href="https://www.rotoscopers.com/2014/06/04/is-how-to-train-your-dragon-4-on-the-horizon/#comment-8381">EllaCedar13</a>.

This would, never, ever, ever happen. I think the lower-than-expected opening for HTTYD2 has completely nixed that possibility forever. I am all for making animated films more mature and not talking down to their audience but I think that backfired for this movie. There was so much talk of it being dark that it scared off parents from taking their kids. That wouldn't be a problem if older audiences were ready to accept that animation is a MEDIUM and not a genre, but this movie proved that they aren't. Older audiences still hold that stigma of animated films being childish (and the marketing didn't help all that much either). Imagine if the film was rated PG-13, completely eliminating its childrens demographic entirely. It would have tanked, even though the movie itself is perfectly good and could be enjoyed by anyone of any age if they gave it a chance.
