I had to Google “Whippet” to see what it was.

I’ve never been a fan of Don Bluth’s films, but this was the film that I “liked” the most of all of his films.

At least she doesn’t have a name until the sequel! 😛

It’s true how this film got plenty of flak back in it’s day often for it’s darker scenario concerning the kidnapped girl being used by the dogs as a ‘gambling device’. I recall having read many reviews for the film back in ’89 that painted it such a bad color in that respect. It’s true there was a lot of things either edited out our altered by the time the film reached theaters. One I recall is Killer trying to use a “Flash Gordon Sub-Atomic Ray Gun” that was originally going to be a real Tommy Gun in the original script and it was animated that way before they had to change the animation after a test screening. At least we get a gun at all. And while some have stated the word “Stupid” was uttered in this film, I only recall Carface call his subordinates “Morons, I’m surrounded by MORONS!”

While it is true they couldn’t get Burt to promote this film at all (and what with Judith Barsi’s death that is kind of a letdown nothing was ever mentioned of it in it’s release), Dom Deluise was plucked to do a short piece that opened and closed the original VHS release reminding viewers of the Boys & Girls Clubs of America as some sort of consolidation I suppose.

While true a lot of the artwork had been lost over time, many pieces have popped up on eBay in recent years. I snapped some pics of cels from my collection I was glad to get for good prices including a studio Christmas card from after the production wrapped up!
