Well, by taking advantage I meant more helping satisfy the overwhelming demand the public has for all things Frozen. Lines to meet Anna and Elsa in the parks are longer than any other attraction on Disney property and the situation with the Disney Store keeping things in stock is outstanding. I think Elsa in OUAT is more about helping satisfy the public’s want for Frozen-related entities in an unexpected, fresh way. Apparently it was the writers who initiated the decision, not Disney, making me more assured that the choice, while definitely encouraging synergy, is ultimately rooted in story. And you don’t see the problem with that? It’s such a sell-out. It’s a forced plot point in the name of marketing, which is EXACTLY what is wrong with our industry today. Instead of focusing on telling great stories, we retell the same story that we just told because we’re too afraid to take any risks. (See “rebooting Spider-man five years after the last reboot.) There is nothing risky about putting Elsa in Once, and if anything I think this will hinder the show greatly. If she is going to be the villain (which how could she after the film? SO many kids would be extremely upset) then it wrecks what was just built not even a year ago regarding character development and such. With Peter Pan etc. time has passed, you can reinvent the character. I don’t see them reinventing Elsa at all. I’d love to see it, but I sincerely doubt they will.

So yeah, “Disney taking advantage of a mega franchise” is exactly the reason why this is a BAD thing, not a good one. We need to see less cash-ins and more doing what’s best for the story and characters of a compelling show/film/series. This is such a sad thing for creativity. This is marketing and PR writing your show for you, instead of the people who should be handling that job.

Agreed about it being Disney just cashing in one a recent success. And for the reason I’m not excited at all. Frozen is becoming so over-inflated that it’s really starting to be a drag to me. I don’t think Once needed this (even a little bit) and I’m not at all hopeful for next season. I’ll still tune in, it’s a great show, but I’m extremely disappointed at this year’s season finale/cliffhanger. What a bore.

A lot of people keep on saying that, but in my view, I think Disney is still keeping Frozen popular until Big Hero 6 premieres and plus, the end of frozen’s run in the cinemas finished the middle of this month, so I think its quite a smart marketing technique they are making

On the other hand, I feel this is just Disney trying to milk the popularity and success of ‘Frozen’ as much as they possibly can!
