Kristin? I love her, but, Maleficent. I think she’s more like a Princess Aurora. I think they’re “disneychannelfying” those characters.

I like your points and they are quite true and legit. I would, however, think that Disney is trying to modernize the Disney canon by sorta-retconning it [to the point of having dead villains having kids. Who would have kids with them, I wonder?] and sorta-alternate universe-ing it to make it appeal to the tween-teenage demographic.

In the end, it’s all just a big cash grab thing that really silly and not quite thought out well [except to be like the “Ever After High” franchise, it seems, which is nothing more than the offspring of classic fairy tale characters, villains and mythical beings having high school relationships and stuff], but a cash grab nonetheless. It is Disney, after all: the maker of lots of unnecessary sequels of both decent and horribly bad quality.

Then again, the “movie-retcon-to-sorta-movie-AU” idea worked well for one of the Cinderella movies, but should it work for the classic Disney villains? It shouldn’t work in my opinion, but I’m willing to give it a try once it comes out.

Also, Disney has publicly confirmed that Disney Channel’s target demographic currently is preteens, or 5-10 years old.

Kinda strange that the two Maleficent actresses are like day and night to each other. But anyway, Kristen Chenowith is awesome. Also, I’m glad that Disney has shown that they will take this project seriously because they’re invested enough to get real stars!

In reply to Kathleen Lawson. Fortunately, this isnt going to be a show. Its a Disney channel original movie coming out. But im sure all the little kids are still going to watch it and beg mommy and daddy to empty their wallets for the terribly-produced merch that will no doubt happen. Hopefully people will avoid this one. Oh and as far as the casting, back when it was announced that Heath Ledger was going to play the Joker in Dark Knight, I didnt think he could pull it off. Boy was I proven wrong! Lol! Some actors/actresses will suprise you.
