Good podcast! I watched this movie yesterday just for this episode.

It’s….an interesting film. There are aspects I like of it and aspects I don’t like.

As ever the podcast puts such a smile on my face. Nice surprise to see Whitney join in, especially considering she’s obviously really passionate about the book/film.

I personally adore this movie and the book it’s based on, but have to agree with Mason that it’s very flawed. The bits where they struggled to condense material from the book stick out like sore thumbs. But it’s still really thoughtful, nuanced and beautiful – I think I’d go somewhere between Mason and the girls’ ratings and give it 3.5 stars.

The Lord of the Rings was animated by Ralph Bakshi actually. Rankin-Bass did do The Hobbit and The Return of the King. Ralph Bakshi’s Lord of the Rings combines the first two books into one movie.
