I agree. He sees what Scar has done to the Pridelands (it’s heavily hinted at that he let the hyenas over-hunt, which could have a larger environmental impact), and while he still believes he killed his father, he knows that, at least he can’t do any worse.

I agree with you. SImba realizes his responsibilities that he has as monarch to his pride and the other animals and knows his duties.

But, I feel that Ms. Emily’s explanation as to it being bad because “Simba feels the throne is rightfully his” isn’t really water-holding. It’s not like Simba feels the throne is “rightfully his”, so he has to go get it back, rather it’s he realizes that he has certain responsibilities in life: he needs to lead his pride, he needs to lead and take care of the other animals, and he’s been shirking this responsibility forever. But now, he realizes what he has to do and goes back to do it.

I would also add that I don’t think Simba comes back because he’s the rightful heir to the thrown. I think he comes back because he realizes what his responsibilities are to his community, and that no matter what he himself has done for his people, they deserve better than Scar as their leader.

Although, that aside, I can understand the interpretation that Simba is a little spoiled. But that’s part of what we’re supposed to see as his growth in the film.

It’s also about how, no matter what happens, the people we love are with us. It’s a touching message, especially for a kid who has experienced a traumatic loss.
