Actually, maybe it’s a good approach to do what Legend of Korra did. Make a cartoon for kids, then when those kids grow up, make an animated drama sequel series. A majority of the viewers of the animated drama will be inherited from the cartoon.

One standard for any Anime is that it is made in Japan. Legend of Korra had Anime style artwork plus mature themes (civil war and such), but since it wasn’t made in Japan, it is officially considered an animated drama. Most of The Last Airbender was themed considerably less maturely than Legend of Korra, so is considered more of a cartoon.

I sort of agree. While I do believe that family animated films should be family oriented, I think that it shouldn’t just be a little kiddy movie. Pixar does do a really good job at making something enjoyable for everyone.

CN also treated both shows like trash, barely promoting them, and airing them only twice a week (weekend mornings). They were even airing new episodes for 2 weeks, and the shows got pulled without notice for a few months.
Beware the Batman is another quality DC show, but CN also treats it like trash. It also got pulled, and episodes that were originally meant to air are premiering on DVD before they actually air on tv.

If the studios just focused on telling a good story about…whatever…it would be just that: a good story. Regardless if it were humorous or dramatic. That’s how we got Pixar after all. They decided they wanted to focus on an awesome story that they would want to watch with their family, vs. appealing specifically to children or to the old tired story lines.

Not to mention if you look at Studio Ghibli, you can also see that they use this as the base of ALL of their stories. And most of their stories are solid. Not all, most. But no one is perfect.

same, i believe if they had develop korra’s personality deeper, instead of making her a typical teenager with love problems, the show would have been more interesting.

Speaking of animated comedies, turns out Zooey Deschanel is producing a new animated fairytale comedy for FOX. *face palm*

Some anime shows do very much look a like, but that’s usually because of the studio and/or director. That was also more common in older anime from back in the 90s. The films I’ve suggested are some of the best animation you’ll see in anime (and animation in general) and none of them look similar. And in the end, isn’t it the story and characters that make something worth watching anyway?

Also, I honestly don’t think that anyone wants to watch a “dramatic” version of the Simpsons or Family Guy. The characters sound and look comical to begin with because their purpose is comedy.

Please try watching one of the films I’ve suggested. They’re all critically acclaimed…and I love them. 🙂
