What I do hope/think is that the writing/tone for this could be more like “The Adventures of Tintin” instead of “Alvin” or the “Smurfs” franchise. “Tintin” and “Rescue Rangers” had lots of swasbuckling action, strange new places to travel to, and and less references to pop culture. The 90’s cartoon had a similar “around the world” adventure vibe and what with Chip’s Indiana Jones-esq attire, this could work.

Apparently that’s what Disney is attempting. A live-action/CGI hybrid. Movies like Alvin, Smurfs, even Enchanted were hits, so I guess Disney hopes this one is too.
