Well, DreamWorks is working on Mumbai Musical, which is a musical and has Stephen Schwartz as the songwriter (Wicked, Hunchback, etc.). I think that is going to be new and fresh musical from a different studio.

While I do agree that the animated musical has done wonders for Disney, I still like it when they do riskier stuff like WIR or BH6.

In fact, BH6 excites me based solely on the fact that it’s based on a Marvel property. And furthermore, it’s an animated comic book film, which you don’t see often in cinemas. The fact that they are also taking heavy influence from Japanese pop-culture also means it will be a different type of comic book movie.

On the flip side, Disney really won’t be the only one doing animated musicals. DWA has a Bollywood-style musical adventure film set for 2016. Also, I’m pretty sure Blue Sky got there fingers wet with RIO (the sequel of which comes out this year). And years before that was Happy Feet.

While I do agree with your stance, I concur that Dreamworks has gotten LOADS better in terms of storytelling and visuals (KFP2 and HTTYD are, IMO, DWA at their finest).

well, if Disney does everything musical, it would go bankrupt. partly becoz most non-animation fans hate musicals, since I have never seen another musical lover in my life. Disney had already done tangled and frozen, and moana and giants may be musicals as well. however, if Disney doesn’t do something different, people will lose interest, especially the boys, who doesn’t like musicals that much (besides me of course).
also, whats wrong with Disney making a film that can be made by another studio? it doesn’t matter, since what we’re focusing on right now is the quality of the film, not the quantity. wreck it ralph can be made by dreamworks, but would they do it like Disney? with beautiful vibrant backgrounds, Disney-ish characters, and a Disney-flavored emotional core? no. dreamworks would’ve made it with pop-cultured references and bad writing.

Nobody said that, and even if I had said it, there´d be a certain probability that Disney would ignore me, I guess… it´s just that I love animated musicals (and the success of Frozen shows that I am not alone). Disney is the only studio who does animated musicals at the moment, so I, personally, am not excited when they do something that could be made by any other studio. Do we really need *another* movie based on Marvel characters? I don´t say it´s going to be a bad movie, not at all – it´s just not the kind of movie that I want to see (I will see it nevertheless, of course…)
Again, what I meant is that it´s disappointing *for me* that it´s not a musical – not that the movie is going to be a disappointment.

I respectfully disagree. I’m all for Disney branching out and differentiating from their usual formulas to deliver something cool and exciting.

Besides, who said that animated musicals HAD to be the only thing Disney is allowed to do?

Lol I knew I couldn’t be the only one who thought that Big Hero 6 was like a Marvel Teen Titans. I’m looking forward to this.
