I agree with Gary: “Why have a ballroom with no balls” has to have double meaning for anyone older than, say, 13, and while the lyricist can play the “plausible deniability” game, it is too obvious. It’s actually a good pun since both meanings apply very well to the situation. The “straight” one means, why have a ballroom if it never gets used. But in a world where Anna only dreams of meeting a man, but is otherwise stuck in a sheltered and one-sided, feminine fantasy, then of course “balls” (as in quintessentially male sexual parts) are needed for the complete picture.

His reluctance to leave her and the kingdom behind weren’t indication enough? As far as the “when did this happen?” question is concerned, my reply is gradually, like most real-life relationships. No long-term couple I know got to that point after singing a duet together. Kristoff mocks Anna for getting engaged to someone she’d only just met. It would have been ridiculous for them to turn around and have him behave the same way. She gave him a replacement sled, he asked for her permission to kiss her. I don’t see that as an indication that they’re madly in love. It looked more like the beginning of a relationship to me. The whole point was that the “love song” in the film turned out to be nonsense. What we saw instead was the beginning of what is probably the healthiest relationship ever portrayed in Disney animation.

I have seen the film twice and have lost count of how many times I’ve listened to the soundtrack. The problem I have with it is how there is no mention throughout the entire movie that Kristoff actually has feelings for Anna and then all of a sudden he’s supposedly in love with her? When did this happen? I have no problem with a movie not having a romantic theme. I loved Brave and the strong character that Merida was. I just feel that the lack of a love song or some sort of mention that Kristoff was “falling for” Anna might have been nice.

Isn’t “We Know Better” great? What a gift it would have been to little girls everywhere to have a song (feature children, no less) that portrays princesses as having minds and feelings like normal people and mocks the shallow princess-y side of things, for a change. I’m disappointed in Disney for cutting that one. Also, the Reindeer Remix would have been hilarious while the credits were rolling. The “why didn’t I get a real song?” and the plural of reindeer bits make me laugh every time….

I think you missed the point of the film. Go see it again. I found it refreshing that there’s another film in the Disney canon (which, let’s remember is aimed at children) that doesn’t portray finding a man as the only way to live happily ever after. They even poke fun at their other films and how quickly the characters fall “in love.” The classics will always be classics, but Merida, Anna and Elsa are much more in line with the sort of females I’d want a daughter (or son) of mine to look up to, since the Disney princess phase seems inevitable….

I really enjoyed the soundtrack of Over the Hedge, personally.
