Thank you so much for a very informative and detailed article Gary! With its magic touch, Disney once again has claimed my heart with “Forzen”. I agree with Susanne that I will miss from the 2000’s Snow Queen is the song Love Can’t Be Denied, I loved it. A very good quote that I just came across:

Behind every success is effort…
Behind every effort is passion…
Behind every passion is someone with the courage to try.

Thank you Disney, for bringing The Snow Queen to life!

I agree regarding the Snow Queen’s original role as a symbolic character; she’s a mysterious aloof being while the plot mostly focuses on Gerda’s tale and mission about getting her best friend back. It didn’t occur to me that Kristoff was supposed to be the Robber Girl but now it makes sense.

I’m quite fond of the original fairy tale as a written story but can understand now why Disney would re-make it into something quite different for a film. Making the protagonists two sisters especially resonates with holiday themes about love and family. “Tangled” also had a modern vibe for me yet wasn’t jarring and as a film it felt very much back in touch with classic Disney story-telling. I find that when Disney wholeheartedly takes on a fairy tale, and *completely* immerses itself in that story, that’s where the best magic happens.

A lot of people forget that Disney would change aspects of certain fairy tales and stories to make it appealing to audiences (Hence why Pinocchio was a nice character instead of a brat, Ariel lives in the end, and Aurora is not a sleep for 100 years). I think the whole sister story will give The Snow Queen a new emotional angle to this famous literary character. Another thing was that The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, Tarzan, Rapunzel and The Snow Queen were stories Walt himself wanted to make but would not be made until many years later. I think that’s why The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, Tarzan, Tangled and Frozen are great because they have that connection with Disney’s history.

That was a good article and essentially explained this movie for me. I was having a hard time relating to this and figuring out what the heck it was. Very interesting.
