Belle is the best. But proof still some kid in this 17 yr old is her extreme curiosityof going into west wing despite bbeing told not to. But tjat does exactly wjay is supposed to make her realistic. Airel said sorry wasn’t sorry got her way. You can tell Belle is truly sorry by her soft tone when she said sorry. But of course any 17 yr old would retort as Belle did but maybe not as clever as Belle’s retorts where. And Belle fixed up the beast scrapes. Belle did a lot and that’s what makes her good. Jasmine wasn’t really indpendt or anything but her daddy was a push over and Aldian was always right there. Mulan was independent but the voices thing from ofher mains and side kicks threw me i can’t help I csn tell difcrence in Korean,Chinese and Japanese accents. And eddie murphy go sit in time out.

While I agree that Belle is certainly one of the best princesses ever, I think it’s a bit too early to say that she’s the best among all 13 before watching Frozen. In my mind, Elsa is a potential contender to Belle. Elsa’s struggles makes Belle look much blessed, thus a success for Elsa would bring a greater significance than that of Belle.

This is a great article. While I do like Belle, she has gone down my list of the DPs by a few spots. I guess what bothers me the most is that she never actually went after her dream; I don’t understand how going to a castle and falling in love with a beast is an adventure. She is a great character though, does not put up with certain things, but does not rub in “Oh I’m feminist”. I have a complicated relationship with BatB though.

Hands down my favorite Disney Princess for her love of books and streak of curiosity. (She just *had* to visit the West Wing!) Because her name means “Beauty” it would’ve
been too predictable since a Disney princess is expected to have some standard
of looking good. But I tip my hat to Disney for taking the time to flesh out Belle’s character and make her unpredictable. I never realize it before until you point out how even the color of her dress makes her stand out from the crowd.

Knowing that Belle rejects Gaston means (to me) that she has enough good judgment to know he’s not an ideal match for her. It reminds me of certain Jane Austen heroines who separate themselves from people of bad character or insincerity. Before they know what they want, they have intuition to know what they don’t want or who they don’t want to spend time with.

To be honest I do realize that Belle gets in over her head such as when the Beast fought off the wolves. She isn’t a warrior or strategist, just a town girl thrust into an enchanting yet frightening situation. But she perseveres and stays noble and kind throughout the story.
