Hi Alissa, My name is Barbara Weber- Scaff and I am the voice director for the new series of Peanuts shorts being produced here in France. I enjoyed your article!
Just to reassure you, I, and all of the actors, are American. I grew up with Peanuts and am as deeply attached to them as any of us are; coincidentally I also happen to live and direct cartoons in France. The animation studio that is producing these shorts, Normaal Animation, is deeply committed to being faithful to the original strips. They are well-known for producing some of the most unique, original and intelligent animation in all of Europe. I hope you will continue to follow the series.

In reply to Blake Taylor. I did the same thing. 500?! Doesn't that seem a bit excessive? Even if they are spectacular, I imagine most people will lose interest after the first dozen or so. Unless they are going to release a new short each day leading up to the film's release (sort of the like the Oreo facebook campaign where they released a new unique Oreo pic each day). I imagine these shorts were created for that purpose. Short, sharable content that will hopefully put Peanuts back to top of mind.

500?!? Good grief!
I love the classic Peanuts holiday specials (Great Pumpkin, Thanksgiving, Christmas), but I’ve found any recent attempts to just not work very well. But I love these characters, so I hope my expectation for the 2015 movie will be proven wrong. If they tap into the nostalgia factor like Muppets did so well, they’ve got it made.

Always looking forward to more Peanuts shorts!! This news doesn’t worry me, though it is disappointing to see it made outside the country. No, I’m worried about the new film. I haven’t loved a Blue Sky film since the first Ice Age over 10 years ago. I’m worried that they’re completely mess up Peanuts and turn it into the generic kiddie film instead of staying loyal to the source material, which was for everyone. I’m so worried that it’ll turn into yet another film about believing in yourself and…I don’t know. All I know is that in the comics Charlie Brown is always faced with constant defeat, which is a completely real & relate-able thing, and I fear Blue Sky will do away with that for their typical generic, forgettable plot with meaningless celebrity voice casts and awful jokes.

Hmmm the only thing I know about Peanuts is that its characters are featured at the nearby Cedar Point amusement park. I am still looking forward to these shorts and the movie. I am just praying it doesn’t turn out like the Smurfs. Yikes! x_x
