I don’t know about how Walt treated his animators personally, but I do know that he and Ub Iwerks had falling out over Oswald the rabbit – whose design was modified and turned into Mickey Mouse. In any case, that era is over and done with, and I’m being cynical about what direction this show takes.

Walt was flawed but was the best traveling Salesman ever. however he was an interestign man who yes took HUGE Risk and pulled it off, treat alot of his animators with respect and like a family,and did some things that where probably out of his own comfert Zone, also Ub Iwreks was jewish, and he and walt got along fine.

I have re-watched Hunchback many times and my opinion remains the same. I’m sorry, I think Disney tried too hard with this movie. Yes the animation is good, Frollo is a good villain and some of the songs are well written. But this movie is dramatically uneven and has some characters that are just flat. I feel like the ONLY reason is has the cult following is because people are intrigued by Disney being “daring.” While I can understand that but there is a difference with being daring in a revolutionary way (I.E. Fantasia) and daring in a forced way (This movie). This movie just feels forced and people’s fan reaction is forced. The problem I think is that Hunchback was never meant to be a Disney animated movie. If Don Bluth did this movie, the gargoyles were gone, and some the characters were memorable but still had the great animation, songs and frollo; then ok I’m happy. But that is not the case for me. Sorry Hunchback fans.

In reply to Rachel Gitlevich. nah thats new Disney for you Racheal, its a Branding company now. Even with all the terrible horrible backstabbing things Eisner has done, he still kept it heading for a "Disney Formula". I Miss Walt when it was all about the risk and fun.

I would definitely watch this, THBON was a favorite of mine as a teen. I would love to see Disney do a back story for her and I would hope that they would keep the spirit and design of the Disney animated heroine, I loved Disneys Esmeralda much better than Hugo’s … Hugos to me, seemed to be a love struck teen who would throw away her life for a Captain who could have cared less.
But Disneys version was simply awesome, it had a great dark tone to it and hit on things that most companies at the time would have said PASS PLEASE…. even if it didn’t do well Disney tried something new and I commend them for that.
