I actually quite liked the film. But that's largely because 1) it fixed a lot of the problems with the first film; 2) the first three books of the Percy Jackson series really seem like learning books - the series doesn't really find its stride until book 4, and thus, films of the first three are necessarily going to be a lot harder to adapt.

I think it'd be nice if they made some kind of conclusion film - maybe jump straight to the fifth book, or something. The stories are pretty self contained, so it's not that hard to imagine, even if it would be sad.

Morgan mentions the lack of danger - that I think is actually pretty accurate to the first three books - there's certainly a lot of madcap threats, but there's very rarely a serious cost in injury or life. What makes it worse is the kinds of things that seem scarier in a book, where you assume a more realistic physics and injury type, are just another action scene in a movie, where you can be thrown several stories and survive.

By the fourth book, there have been some serious losses, so the dangers might start to be more real - but it's hard to adapt books as sprawling and episodic as these first three. Ah, well.

I am a big fan of the Percy Jackson book series, along with Riordan's other two series, Heroes of Olympus and The Kane Chronicles. The books are so good, and really take mythology and weave them into the story, while adding slight twists. For example, there was the Cyclopes from Odessius(?) that was in the movie, but that was only part of what happened in the books. Honestly, they cut out more than half of the plot, which, while not as bad as the first one(which I refuse to name because it absolutely disgusts me with how much they mangled it), was still horrible. They moved things from later books to this book, where they make very little sense in context and get rid of much of the character development. In the books, you can actually understand why Luke is how he is, and how Percy could easily turn out like him. The movies... I felt nothing. My friend and I went to see it just to give it a second chance.... And I honestly hope they won't attempt to make a third. The only things that made me like this film were that some of the actors I enjoy (such as Logan Lerman, Nathan Fillion, and the guy who plays Luke who's name escapes me) and the CGI. Holy Hippocampus.
