I personally feel that hand-drawn is prettier overall but I prefer Pixar to Disney in terms of animation and character design when it comes to CG films. I mean, I don't like how Anna, Elsa or Rapunzel look. At all. They look so boring. Narrow beauty ideal. If they're keeping up the CG they better refresh the character designs and make them look more original. I think Merida is prettier since she looks more like a real person, with smaller eyes, unique facial features, and a more realistic body type. If they're never doing hand-drawn again I'm seriously sad, I mean I'm fine with Pixar doing CG since they're so good at it and it's their thing, but I wish Disney would keep up the hand-drawn since it seems to be disappearing overall which is a shame. It seems only anime creators do hand-drawn these days, on the other hand I'm happy they're still doing it.
I know there are issues with The Princess and the Frog, but I actually preferred it to Tangled. It felt more charming to me somehow. I think Tangled is overrated, I mean it's enjoyable but not much else. And I hope they didn't think The Princess and the Frog was unsuccessful because of the POC characters. And even if it was, they should create more POC characters overall in order to change people's views and open their minds so that not every movie about POC is assumed to be "for POC" and movies about white people are assumed to be "for everyone".

Heheee, that Frozen picture makes me giggle :3
Still not a day goes by when I don't feel sad about Disney not making traditionally-animated films anymore; deep down, I've always wished Tangled was traditionally-animated, and it would have been interesting to see how well it would have done, giving clarity to the 'Was the movie successful because it's CGI?' question. A part of my crazy mind likes to think that one of the future animated Disney films (maybe John Musker and Ron Clements' new film) will be traditionally-animated, and they're just going to keep it a secret - but I have too much wishful thinking :(

You have a point. I think execs and analysts are in a hard spot of trying to justify greenlighting things, but you want hard data points, like "hand drawn vs. CGI" instead of "well, the story was just better."

I am not sad about Tangled at all - it is the film that turned me into a Disney fan. However, that doesn't mean I don't wish Princess and the Frog wasn't a better film and had had the same impact.

I'm hoping that "no traditionally animated films" doesn't rule out the Paperman animation method. I'd definitely accept that!

I almost wish Tangled didn't happen. Not because I dislike Tangled, it's just that Disney misinterpreted its success was because it was computer-animated. The Princess and the Frog was good but Tangled overall story was better. That's why I feel Tangled did better.

But good-golly, does this mean the hand-drawn movies we'll be seeing is Spongebob 2 and Phineas and Ferb? Come on, Disney.
