I love Carl and Ellie’s story. Carl’s character arch is very moving. I love how Carl adopts Russell at the end. Sigh. Truly a beautiful film.

Best thing is that when I went to the Pixar Masterclass last year, we got to see Pete Docter’s student short film and it was about an old rectangle that was annoyed by a young circle! He had the idea in his head ages ago!

Yet they learn to get along and develop such a deep bond. That two people so different can be so the same is a powerful thing (and one Pete Docter’s clearly likes using: hello, Mike and Sulley). Best animated film in decades that doesn’t have Toy Story in the title; should’ve won the Oscar, it’s miles better than The Hurt Locker.

Plus, the dialogue for Doug is probably the most accurate representation of a dog’s train of thought I’ve ever seen.
