This is exactly why I approve of crossovers with Rotg and httyd. Jack is traced back to Norse legends as jokul frosti. Norse is viking mythology. I think DreamWorks are tying together movies??? Idk.

Thank for this lovely article! I've read about Jokul Frosti (does that make Jack Frost related to Loki?) and other depictions of Jack Frost that were more threatening and less playful than the Dreamworks version. But a lot of "Guardians" hinges upon the William Joyce books where he writes an origin story for each of the Guardians and that gives the characters a strong foundation to build upon.

In the graphic novel "Fables" there are many fairy tale characters including Jack Frost. In those stories he's the offspring of the Snow Queen and Jack Horner. Neither of them are portrayed in a good light (Jack Horner is downright repulsive) but Jack Frost takes off to pursue a career in heroism. He forfeits his icy powers yet maintains great physical strength so he's more of a swashbuckler than winter spirit.

Dreamworks' Jack Frost is a character who has been in the human world (in his past life) and in the magical world of the Guardians (present life) so there's a nice sense of duality to his character.

Great article! I see Jack has been everything from sinister antagonist to a loving father. And in ROTG he was a completely new character. I love the original character designs in ROTG.
