i find this heartening.

yes real folks who are (hopefully) dedicated are no longer employed and this is sad.

but from a business stand point it shows the Walt Disney Company is not a staid behemoth lumbering along (aka Microsoft) but rather a dynamic evolving corporation that can face the uncertain tides of the future with efficiency and ability.

times and technology moves on - what took ten people to do five years ago now takes one.

I know most of us animation addicts (referring to myself here) prefer to not think about the business side of things preferring to suspend reality and get lost for two hours in the fantasy of the brilliant movies that get created but they are made for one reason - to turn a profit.

ultimately as long as it means they are in a position to keep making movies and putting their money into those projects I am happy.

Insert Darth Vader's "NOOOO!"
It's sad from the animation-lover's POV when big companies like Disney and Dreamworks have to make these cuts. I guess even as successful as they are, they have high stakes and expectations to make tremendous profits. Here's to hoping things improve in the next few years and they'll be back to hiring people soon.
