She spent a lot of time in “Harry Potter” running around in sweaters and covered in blood and bruises (at least that’s what I remember of Hermoine) so it would be nice to see Emma Watson waltzing on the dance floor with that grace and charm as a princess. Yes, I know there was a ball in “Goblet of Fire” but this would be something different!

The Cinderella story is easy to adapt. We enjoyed “Ever After” in my class when it came out. But it is strange that Disney is re-inventing its own wheel. I think they are doing it for profitable reasons and because EVERYONE is doing fairy tales now that it could be expected of them.

As for a remake, I’m a bit indifferent. The “heavy CGI” scares me a bit and I agree with Gary: why does a Cinderella tale need it? There’s no evil beast (well, some could argue that Lady Tremaine fills that role), grand location, etc. I wasn’t really a fan of Burton’s “Alice” and I guess I’ll find out soon how I feel about “Oz.” I see why Disney would want to capitalize on their already established and popular franchises, but we shall see on this one.

I’ve been dissapointed with most recent film adaptations of classic fairy tales such as Tim Burton’s “Alice in Wonderland” and “Snow White and the Huntsman”. They seem to be trying too hard in dark storytelling and too little entertainment underneath all the GCI and makeup. It’s so different from the Disney musical versions of fairy tales that a lot of us grew up with.
But I’m still waiting for the reviews of “Oz the Great and Powerful” to draw full conclusions.

Interesting! But it begs the question…are CGI heavy, live action remakes of animated classics really necessary?
