I actually am not a fan of nor well acquainted with anime. The only “anime”-related things I watch are the Studio Ghibli films and I’ve only gotten into them about a year ago or so.

And this is my favorite Studio Ghibli film so far and one of my favorite animated films of all time. Doug Walker described this film as a film he thought was so good that he was jealous of it, and that’s pretty much how I feel about this.

He’s adamant that he creates “douga eiga”–by which is meant “cartoon films”, implying classical full animation rather than limited animation–and in that I believe he’s largely correct.
