Emma-Stone-Cruella

After being in development limbo with no concrete updates for a while (we first reported on it in 2013), Disney confirmed its Cruella film is still on, and what’s more, it’s cast not one but two Emmas to star.

Just announced at D23 Expo, Emma Stone and Emma Thompson will share the spotlight in Cruella, a reimagining of 1961’s 101 Dalmatians, which itself was already adapted into live-action in the 1996 film of the same name and followed on in 2000 with 102 Dalmatians.

So it seems we’ve reached the inevitable: remakes of the remakes! Joking aside, the film will take place in the 1970s, meaning, in theory, Stone could actually be playing the same version of the character who would go on to be Glenn Close’s portrayal. We’ll see. Paul Walter Hauser and Joel Fry also star, assumedly as Jasper and Horace. The film is slated to hit theaters in 2021.

Ready to see the evil queen of furs back in action?
