The plot and voice cast for the upcoming Warner Animation Group animated film, Scoob, has been announced by sources including Deadline and Zoinks, is it surprising! It seems that the Mystery, Inc. gang from Hanna-Barbera’s Scooby-Doo franchise will be teaming up with other members of the Hanna-Barbera universe to defeat the antagonist, Dick Dastardly (of Wacky Races fame).
Frank Welker, who is the current voice of both Fred Jones and Scooby-Doo, will reprise his role as the titular canine for Scoob. However, the role of the trap-obsessed leader, Fred Jones, will be taken over by Zac Efron for the theatrical film. The fashion-loving Daphne Blake will be voiced by Amanda Seyfried, the knowledgeable Velma Dinkley will be voiced by Gina Rodriguez, and Scooby-Doo’s best pal, Shaggy Rogers will be voiced by Will Forte. It is yet known who will voice Dick Dastardly or which other characters from the Hanna-Barbera universe will appear other than Captain Caveman (of Captain Caveman and the Teen Angels fame), voiced by Tracy Morgan.
The film will be directed by Tony Cervone (Scooby-Doo! Abracadabra-Doo, Scooby-Doo! and Kiss: Rock and Roll Mystery) and will be produced by Chris Columbus (Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief, Pixels), Pam Coats (Mulan), and Allison Abbate (The Iron Giant, Frankenweenie). The film’s screenplay will be written by Matt Lieberman (The Addams Family) and Kelly Fremon Craig (Post Grad, The Edge of Seventeen), replacing the previously attached Dax Shepard.
Scoob will be the first Scooby-Doo film to hit theaters since Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed in 2004. If things go well, this could potentially be the first film in a Hanna-Barbera Cinematic Universe! Scoob will be released to cinemas on May 15, 2020.
