'Dr. Seuss' The Grinch' Coming to Digital & DVD

Universal Pictures releases Illumination’s Dr. Seuss’ The Grinch on digital January 22nd and on a multitude of disc formats—4k Ultra HD, 3D Blu-Ray, regular Blu-Ray, and basic DVD—this February 5th.

The film is based on Dr. Seuss’ classic tale of the mountain-dwelling, dog-owning grouch who is determined to steal Christmas from the neighboring town, only to realize the importance of the holiday through friendships along the way. Directed Scott Mosuer and Yarrow Cheney, with screenplay by Michael LeSieur and Tommy Swerdlow, music by Danny Elfman, and narration by Pharrell Williams, Dr. Seuss’ The Grinch stars Benedict Cumberbatch, Cameron Seely, Rashida Jones, Kenan Thompson, and Angela Lansbury.

The home release contains over 60 minutes of bonus content, featuring three mini-movies starring the minions and Max, respectively: “Yellow is the New Black,” “Santa’s Little Helpers,” and “Dog Days of Winter.”

The rest of the bonus features—several featurettes and fun content—are included with both digital and disc release:

  • “The Making of the Mini-Movies”
  • “From Green to Screen” – Behind-the-scenes and interviews with cast and crew
  • “Illuminating THE GRINCH” – The process and evolution of the Grinch’s Illumination animation
  • “My Earliest GRINCH Memories”
  • “Grinchy Gadgets”
  • “I Am The Grinch” Lyric Video – A stylized look at Tyler, The Creator’s original song created just for the film
  • “Songs From His Little Heart” – Interviews and behind-the-scenes with the film’s composer and musicians
  • X-mas Around the World
  • “Cindy-Lou’s Yule Log”
  • “Production Babies”
  • “Any Who Can Draw” – Hosted by an Illumination artist and head of story Mark O’Hare, here’s a step-by-step tutorial for the Grinch, Max and Fred!

Other bonus features include some exclusive stuff in the disc release:

  • “Who’s Who in Who-ville” – A virtual and interactive pop-up book to explore the Whos and town of Who-ville
  • “You’re A Mean One, Mr. Grinch” Lyric Video – Tyler, The Creator puts his spin on the classic Seussian song

The film will be released in multiple pack tiers—4K etc, 3D Blu-Ray etc, Blu-Ray—with some including digital copies.

Watch for Illumination’s Dr. Seuss’ The Grinch coming soon to digital and a store near you!
