Joining in on the holiday celebrations, Disney has dropped the official teaser trailer and poster for 2019’s epic live-action reimagining of the classic The Lion King.
The teaser follows all the beats of the original animated ‘Circle of Life’ sequence almost to a tee, and everything you expect is there: the sprawling African landscapes, the animals gathering for Simba’s presentation, and of course, Rafiki lifting Simba high. We also get glimpses of the wildebeest stampede, Mufasa’s spirit, and adult Simba. The trailer is set to the original version of ‘Circle of Life.’ Watch the trailer below:
As expected from Jon Favreau (who last gave us The Jungle Book remake) the animals look hyper-realistic and gorgeously animated. While it’s still too early to judge, as we still haven’t heard any actual dialogue, the animals don’t really show much emotion or personality and seem more like regular animals. Case in point: Simba’s roar at the end of the teaser: isn’t he supposed to look terrified and troubled when he hears his father speak? Oh well. It’s best to wait for a better look at the film before we decide if we like it or not.
Disney also dropped the first teaser poster for the film, which can be seen below in its entirety.
Directed by Jon Favreau and with a screenplay by Jeff Nathanson, The Lion King stars A-listers such as Donald Glover (Simba), Billy Eichner (Timon), Seth Rogen (Pumbaa), Chiwetel Ejiofoa (Scar), Beyonce (Nala), and James Earl Jones (Mufasa), among others. Between Aladdin, Dumbo, Toy Story 4, Frozen 2 and now The Lion King, it looks like 2019 is shaping up to be another blockbuster year for Disney. Mark your calendars for July 19, 2019.
