When the new season of The Powerpuff Girls reboot airs on Cartoon Network next weekend, not only will fans be treated to a new collection of stories following the world’s youngest superheroes, but they’ll also be introduced to a brand-new Powerpuff Girl.
Toya Delazy has been announced as the voice actress for the fourth Powerpuff Girl, who has thus far only officially been revealed by Entertainment Weekly as a silhouette alongside the original PPG trio of Blossom, Bubbles, and Buttercup. Delazy is a South African singer, songwriter, and musician who previously recorded the PPG reboot’s theme song for the African market.
Delazy says she grew up with Cartoon Network shows and is living out a dream being given this voice-over opportunity. As reported on AnimationMagazine.net, Delazy said, “Watching Cartoon Network really opened my mind as a child, and for me the channel still represents creativity in all aspects of the word. The shows are bold, unexpected, energetic and exciting—definitely a brand that I can identify with and relate to.”
In addition to the official teaser image, there’s been another rumored image circulating the Internet that may or may not tell us more about the fourth Powerpuff Girl’s appearance. Delazy’s character is currently slated to be in five episodes of the new season.
The season premiere episode “The Power of Four” will air on Cartoon Network on Sunday, September 17 at 5:30 p.m.
