Disney XD Debuts 1st Trailer for ‘DuckTales;’ Renews Series for 2nd Season

After months of teases, with just brief glimpses of the artwork and a video featuring just the voice actors, Disney XD has finally released a proper trailer for their upcoming reboot of DuckTales, with a full minute and a half of animation!

Not only that, but they have already ordered a second season! This order comes well in advance of the show’s summer premiere, which shows tremendous confidence in a show that we still know very little about!

Marc Buhaj, Senior Vice President of Programming and General Manager of Disney XD, is already singing the show’s praises saying, “Fans around the world are eager and we’re looking forward to introducing viewers to the all-new DuckTales. This early season two order is a testament to the quality work the creative team, led by Matt and Frank, and the cast are delivering.”

You can watch the trailer here!

As you can see, we get a great look at all our main characters and we can finally see how their voices work in character. I for one loved everyone, but the standout for me, of course, was David Tennant as Scrooge McDuck. As a long-time fan of Doctor Who I could be biased, but I really think he makes for a great Scrooge and it’s so much fun to hear his voice again.

In addition to the great voice work, I am also loving the art. I don’t know if this is hand drawn animation or if they’re using a program like flash, but, however they’re creating it, everything feels very hand-drawn. It all looks just a bit sketchy, like drawings, but not too much so, and it just gives the show a very distinct look. I love everything about the artwork, and the animation just looks great.

DuckTales is set to arrive sometime this summer on Disney XD, with no official premiere date set yet.

What do you think of this news? What did you think of the trailer, and how do you feel about the voices?

Oh my, am I the only one who thinks that they really messed up Huey, Dewey, Louie, and Webby?

    • aquapyro

By mess up you actually give them personalities?

  • I am seriously impressed with David Tennant’s Scrooge here!! Even if I didn’t watch the original show but still have seen Scrooge McDuck before in other cartoons, he sounds pretty spot on and giving him a lot of life!!
The only thing I’m not digging is the voices of Hewey, Dewey, and Lewy I mean they sound way too old to be children and super weird to listen to. Webby sounds inbetween also.
Might check out this show but only for Tennant’s McDuck at this point 🙂

    • I think the voices sound fine. There are plenty of other cartoon kids voiced by adults, that I never even gave it a second thought until I started seeing complaints around the internet. I think the guys sound fine, but I actually love Webby’s voice, though that’s probably because I already love Kate Micucci, and I am excited to have her on a new show. 🙂

I normally don’t mind adults voicing juvenile characters.

      • Yeah I guess you guys are right, it just might take a while to get used to if I ever do check it out…

  • Manuel Orozco

The trailer overall looks awesome! The new voices won’t steal the original’s Thunder but it will take some getting used to.

  • Let’s all give this show a chance before we dismiss it based on how it sounds.

    • Manuel Orozco

I was skeptical about this at first because I don’t remember seeing every episode of the original on Toon Disney. However, I jumped on the bandwagon after getting excited for Spider Man and Big Hero 6 coming to Disney XD.

      • Wait? Are they doing a reboot to replace the current spider-man show or is it still the same one?

        • Manuel Orozco

Yes reboot and the current show had its final episode two months ago.

  • Jeremiah

Donald’s voice is definitely good, most of the characters are really, but Huey Dewey and Louie will take some adjusting but their voices MAY fit, I’ll need to hear more. Anyway, everyone definitely looks in character (except for Webby who they seemed to have changed, maybe for the better) and this looks like there’s some serious effort, with a lot of energy and quality animation. Also, Scrooge said his “tougher than the toughies” line, eeee!

    • Manuel Orozco

Agreed. The final product shall be our main verdict.

  • Bob Smith

I do miss Alan Young as Scrooge McDuck, but this new voice also works. Donald Duck appears to have a larger role in this reboot, which is a welcome change since he didn’t appear too often in the older series.

    • Manuel Orozco

Donald having a bigger role is the big condition I would watch this reboot.

  • I’m getting Gravity Falls vibes here, so I’m hoping this fills that hole for me

  • Alistair Carlyle

The animation is a bigger problem than the voices. This is nothing like the classic Disney animation of the original and might as well be a flash animated show like power puff girls. The trailer tells me all I need to know – I will not be watching this cheaply produced junk.

  • Amber Bodenhamer

I wish they were kicking this series off with a tv movie like they’ve done for Disney jr shows lately. That would be cool.

    • Manuel Orozco

That would be cool and Tangled is doing that this Friday. I hope Big Hero 6: The Series does the same just to catch up Hiro and friends.

    • Well, it’s still a few months away, I suppose it’s still a possibility that they could. I’d even be happy with an hour-long special to kick it off. 🙂
