Given the success of Disney’s Moana, it’s no surprise to anyone that the talents of composer/writer/actor Lin-Manuel Miranda are sought by other film companies. According to Variety, Miranda has been hired to write songs for a forthcoming animated musical film entitled Vivo.

The film is said to focus on a music-loving monkey and the journey he takes “from Havana to Miami to fulfill his destiny.” The film is being developed by Sony Animation, although it has its start at DreamWorks Animation.

Besides Miranda, a number of other people have joined the film’s crew as well, including Kirk DeMicco (Space Chimps, The Croods) as director, Lisa Stewart (Monsters vs. Aliens, Turbo) as producer, Laurence Mark (I, Robot, Dreamgirls) as executive producer, and Quiara Alegría Hudes (In the Heights) as scriptwriter. Vivo is set to hit theaters December 18, 2020.

Are you excited for this Sony Animation film, Vivo? How do you feel about Lin-Manuel Miranda writing the songs for the film? Let us know in the comments below!

It wasn’t the success of Moana. Lin has been a part of this project for years, a film that started at Dreamworks.

  • Manuel Orozco

I didn’t see Moana or Hamilton yet. But I did like Señor Miranda’s first show In the Heights. Vivo sounds like an exciting new movie.

  • Well I love musicals and I love monkeys, so I’m up for it.

    • Manuel Orozco

      I love musicals than monkeys

    • I hope we see Mumbai Musical come to fruition one day!

      • Manuel Orozco

You mean that one movie that was supposed to have music by Stephen Schwartz and A.R. Rachman (Slumdog Millionaire)?

  • This sounds fun! Really like musicals and really like Miranda so here’s to hoping this turns out amazing!

    • Manuel Orozco

I’m actually a much bigger fan of stage musicals than film musicals.

      • That’s cool! I myself have not been able to attend very many stage musicals, so I do end up watching a lot more musical films. Are there any stage musicals you’d reccomend a newbie like me to keep an eye out for?

        • Manuel Orozco

Well for a much easier suggestion check out BroadwayAcrossAmerica.com to see what touring shows are coming to the city nearest you.

          • Ah, thank you very much!

          • Manuel Orozco

It should help you out choose a musical that suits your taste.

  • Hopeful because Lin-Manuel is involved in in this. Less hopeful because Sony is involved.

    • Manuel Orozco

It’s been a while since I saw anything from Sony

      • Saw Open Season, Surf’s Up, Cloudy 1 and Transylvania 1. Nothing since.

        • Manuel Orozco

I didn’t any of them except Transylvania 1 along with the previous Smurfs movies. By the way, I meant Sony in general

          • I did see Smurfs 1. I just didn’t include it since it’s mostly live-action.

          • Manuel Orozco

Smurfs 2 and HT 2 were as good as their previous installments. I’m looking forward to Smurfs Lost Village, HT 3 and the upcoming Spider Man animated movie.

I am inclined to agree with you:) although one never knows.

      • It could surprise me, but remember that Sony’s track record ain’t too good.

        • Ryan Prieto

believe me I know… I was at the ‘Ratchet and Clank’ early viewings. Granted I love ‘Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs’. To your point, one should not be going around using the exceptions to the rule as evidence.

          • Manuel Orozco

You should go see Smurfs Lost Village if you haven’t I loved it

Miranda has not let me down yet, so I will be there until he does… and then again afterwards because we all have bad days.
