Damn, Disney! Back at it again with the live-action remakes!

After the roaring success of Disney’s live-action take on The Jungle Book, its live-action remake train continues unabated with the news that everyone feared, expected, anticipated, or all of the above!

As revealed this morning, Jon Favreau (Iron Man 1 and 2, The Jungle Book) is re-teaming with Walt Disney Pictures for a live-action remake of The Lion King.

Favreau himself teased his involvement with the project on his Twitter, a little before Disney went public with the information:

Excited for my next project ??

— Jon Favreau (@Jon_Favreau) September 28, 2016

Nothing else is known about the project thus far, other than that it will feature songs from the original animated feature.

A beloved Disney staple and one of the highest-grossing animated films of all time, The Lion King was the highlight of the studio’s original Renaissance period. A franchise of sorts was spawned from this success, with a TV show, direct-to-DVD features, and a smash-hit Broadway adaptation that continues to draw audiences to this day.

The film is yet another addition to a long list of upcoming remakes in the works at Disney. Joining it is a sequel to The Jungle Book, announced a while ago and set for a 2019 release window. Jon Favreau and Justin Marks will return, with Neel Sethi reprising his role as Mowgli.

Once again, the list goes as follows (three of them have release dates now): Beauty and the Beast, Mary Poppins Returns, The Jungle Book 2, Dumbo, Mulan, Winnie the Pooh, Pinocchio, Tink, Night on Bald Mountain, Maleficent 2, Prince Charming, Genies, The Sword in the Stone, and The Lion King.

If I’m missing any, please tell me in the comments below!

What do you think? Is it as exciting (or terrifying) as you thought it would be?
