I don’t know if you enjoy Easter Eggs in films like I do. They add that extra level of fun especially when doing a rewatch, and Disney/Pixar are the king of Easter Eggs. One I’ve never heard discussed on this website is the history of Disney owls. Did you know you can tell the story of Disney through all the owls?
Let’s take a look at the owls over the years:
Our first Disney owl appears in Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.
Then of course in Bambi we got Friend Owl.
We get an owl in The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr Toad.
In Alice and Wonderland, you have two owls: one in the caucus race and the accordion owl.
Sleeping Beauty has a pretty iconic owl that even dances with our princess.
Archimedes from Sword in the Stone is one of the most iconic and funniest owls.
We have two Winnie the Pooh movies that of course have an owl: The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh and Winnie the Pooh.
Robin Hood gives us our saddest owls.
The Rescuers gives us our first Clergy Owl.
Big Mama from The Fox and the Hound gives good advice and sings a merry tune.
This was a deeper find, but there is an owl in the forest of Beauty and the Beast.
We get some colorful owls in Pocahontas.
Athena from Hercules has a blue owl that follows her around.
Finally, there is Professor Owl who would be a part of many Disney specials including Adventures in Music.
It’s a bit surprising they didn’t work in an owl in The Princess and the Frog, Frozen, or Tangled as they all have forest scenes. Perhaps they are removing the owl Egg for the moment.
Still, I had fun compiling this list, and I hope you enjoyed it too.
