Best day ever! Deadline reports new details for Disney Channel’s upcoming Tangled series, which now has a title—Tangled: Before Ever After.
The voice cast now includes an array of returning and new actors. Jeffrey Tambor and Paul F. Tompkins return as Snuggly Duckling thugs Big Nose and Shorty, respectively, while M.C. Gainey reprises his role as Captain of the Guards. Joining the cast are Ashley Judd (Divergent) as Queen Arianna, Eden Espinosa as Rapunzel’s friend Cassandra, Jeff Ross as Hook Foot, and Richard Kind (Bing Bong!) as Uncle Monty. As previously announced, Mandy Moore and Zachary Levi lead as Rapunzel and Flynn Rider.
The series is confirmed to be produced in traditional 2D animation with a design contributed by Claire Keane, as seen in this newly released image. Tangled: Before Ever After takes place between 2010’s Tangled and 2012’s short film Tangled Ever After (hence the title), and tells of Rapunzel adjusting to her new life as princess of the kingdom. (It’s anyone’s guess as to how the reappearance of Rapunzel’s long, blonde hair will be explained!) When the project was first announced last June, we learned that original songs would be developed for the series by the film’s original composing duo, Alan Menken and Glenn Slater.
The news comes as Disney Channel prepares its upfront this week for advertisers. The network group revealed last week that Big Hero 6: The Series is in the works for Disney XD. Both series will be created by Disney Television Animation. They recall a revival of a bygone era when nearly every property from Walt Disney Animation Studios would make the leap to television for a small-screen spin-off.
Tangled: Before Ever After premieres 2017 on Disney Channel.
