The DRAGONS TV Recap: Pre-Show Discussion + General Overview and First Impressions

DragonsRecapped

The DRAGONS TV Recap is back!

In just a few days, 13 new episodes of DreamWorks Dragons: Race to the Edge will debut on Netflix, continuing the adventures of the Dragon Riders and their quest to uncover the secrets of the Dragon Eye, a mysterious artifact that holds secrets and knowledge pertaining to the wider world of dragons.

Starting on January 18, I will (as always) break down each episode and deliver my thoughts and impressions for a total of 10 articles over the course of two weeks.

For those who have kept up with my previous articles in the series, the rules are pretty much the same (see here). That said, there will be some major changes to the format. Some of these changes have been made by yours truly, while others will be decided on by YOU (the reader).

Social Interaction (via Twitter)

I think it’s fair to assume that most (if not the majority) of Dragons fans have a twitter account, right? If you are one of those people, then I have a special treat.

In a Rotoscopers first, I will engage in social interaction with the readers via the official Rotoscopers Twitter account for anything related to Race to the Edge. Through Twitter, you are free to tweet me your questions, theories, predictions, and musings by using the hashtag #DragonsTVrecap. I will respond to just about anything you send me, as long as you don’t have a bunch of spoilers!

Thoughts from the Casual Viewer

The next big addition I have is a new segment called “Thoughts from the Casual Viewer,” in which I will have a rotating cast of 1-2 people from our Rotoscopers team give their written thoughts on a specific episode. I am adding this segment in because, believe it or not, I’m not the only person at Rotoscopers HQ who watches the show. It also grants us a look at the opinions of viewers who aren’t dedicated Dragons fans, which should make for an interesting perspective.

This will replace Morgan’s video reviews, as commitments to other videos have made the reviews unfeasible to produce from a scheduling standpoint.

Improvements and Other Things

The recaps will also have a tightened, cleaner, and clearer structure. In the new format, my summary of an episode and my impression of said episode will be given separate segments so they aren’t mashed together and confused.

There will also be a ‘post-mortem’ article near the end, in which we will go over and discuss the storylines, plot points, and character arcs explored throughout Race to the Edge in addition to major ties and connections to How to Train Your Dragon 2 and beyond.

There are also other possible changesI could make to the Recap, but it wouldn’t feel right if I didn’t have input from the readers.

As such, I have created a poll where you can vote on which major change you want to see implemented to the format of The DRAGONS TV Recap. This list includes things like a weekly publishing schedule, a different starting date and a segment focusing on the development of Hiccup and Astrid’s relationship. Whichever change gets the most votes will be implemented to the format of the Recaps.

[polldaddy poll=9258828]

I hope you’re ready for when the dragons arrive on January 8!

What do you think? If you have any suggestions for changes or improvements, be sure to post them in the comments below!
