Fans of the 2007 Disney movie Enchanted will be excited to hear that the sequel is moving slowly forward and the new title is revealed to be Disenchanted.
It shouldn’t be a surprise to us that Disney finally gave the go-ahead for the Enchanted sequel after its recent successful princess endeavours like Frozen, Maleficent, and the live-action Cinderella. Little is known at this point about casting, but let’s hope Amy Adams, Patrick Dempsey, James Marsden, and Susan Sarandon reprise their roles (and we know Disney will want to cash in on Frozen‘s Idina Menzel again). Though the revealed title could still change between now to the film’s release, it does create some intrigue as to what the film’s plot could be. Is this a straightforward follow-up to the character’s happily ever after? Did everything not turn out how it should have? Is it a completely new take on the first film with new characters?
What we do know is that Anne Fletcher signed to direct. This is promising since her previous directorial movies (Step Up, The Proposal, and Hot Pursuit) were successful with both audiences and critics. We also know that The Smurfs and Shrek 2 writers David N. Weiss and J. David Stem, along with Stepmom writer Jessie Nelson, are involved in the screenplay.
The original “fish out of water” set-up of the first movie required the central character Giselle, portrayed by Amy Adams (above), to be both animated in the fantasy land of Andalasia and filmed in live-action in New York City. Filmmakers would be a fool not to use this trope again in the sequel, but let’s just hope the characters and the world are still made with the charm of traditional animation and not updated with CG.
