Borrowed Time is an animated short film directed by Pixar employees Andrew Coats and Lou Hamou-Lhadj set in the Old West about an aged-old Sheriff and the first teaser trailer has just arrived.

Coats and Hamou-Lhadj met when studying Film at NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts. It was here that they both worked on each others shorts and vowed to someday make a film together when the time was right. Coats has worked at Pixar as a Character Artist on WALL•E, Toy Story 3 and the upcoming film The Good Dinosaur. Hamou-Lhadj, after working at Blue Sky Studios, also joined Pixar to work on Cars 2, Brave, Inside Out and The Good Dinosaur. Reuniting at Pixar sparked a need to create something together. Over the next five years they used their spare time to make Borrowed Time.

The music is written and performed by Gustavo Santaolalla. You might recall his music from films such as The Motorcycle Diaries and The Last of Us. He’s also won an Academy Award for Best Original Score for Brokeback Mountain and Babel.

Amanda Deering Jones, the producer, has worked for both DreamWorks Animation and Pixar Animation. She describes the experience as a long journey but an extremely rewarding one. Find out more about the crew here.

Check out the official synopsis below:

A weathered Sheriff returns to the remains of an accident he has spent a lifetime trying to forget. With each step forward, the memories come flooding back. Faced with his mistake once again, he must find the strength to carry on.

I am astounded at everything this team has accomplished in their short. The animation is top-quality, the character designs and the setting are so attractive and the music (from the little we can hear) sounds thrilling. I didn’t even mention the intrigue of the storyline and the action. The “you can do this” line has me hooked. Now that’s how you make a teaser trailer. I can’t wait to see this one. The five years the crew spent working on this project has clearly paid off. Enough of me gushing. Check out the teaser for yourself:

What do you think of the teaser trailer to ‘Borrowed Time’? Does it make you excited to see the short?
