Disney has released the first official teaser trailer for their upcoming 55th Animated Feature, Zootopia and it looks good!
The new trailer, seen below, is more substantial than the humorous gag-driven clips we initially got for Frozen and Big Hero 6. We are introduced to the concept of a metropolis consisting completely of animals and their humanized behavior. We get an extended look at the menagerie of animals, big and small, which will be featured in the film, and their unique quirks. For example, notice the super slow sloth and the extra tall giraffe. All the animals behave as they would in the wild, only they walk on two feet and wear clothes.
Nick the fox and Judy the bunny, the film’s lead characters, are featured as well. While the teaser doesn’t really give us anything by way of a story or plot, we get to see Nick and Judy continuously getting one up on each other, which surely is one of the film’s key points. Of note is the stunning animation. The animals look colorful, detailed and well realized, and while they are true to their real-life counterparts, they still have an exaggerated and cartoony look.
Zootopia is the story of two unlikely allies, Nick Wilde, the fox and Judy Hopps, the bunny. The natural enemies’ paths cross when they realize they need each other’s help in order to solve a mystery. The anthropomorphic film is inspired by classic crime capers, with a signature Disney touch. It is Disney’s first CGI ‘talking animal’ movie since 2008’s Bolt.
The film stars Jason Bateman as Nick Wilde and Ginnifer Goodwin as Judy Hopps. It is directed by Rich Moore (Wreck-It Ralph) and Byron Howard (Tangled).
From Walt Disney Animation Studios, Zootopia releases in US theatres on March 4, 2016.
