‘Dragons: Race to the Edge’: Possible Snow Wraith Design + Doug Sloan Answers Fan Questions

Dragons_RTTE

We have more news to report on DreamWorks Dragons: Race to the Edge. This time, we shift our attention from the treasure trove of detailed information about the show itself to a couple of updates on the possible design of one of the new dragons to appear in Race to the Edge, as well as fan questions and comments answered by none other than one of the show’s producers!

Possible Snow Wraith Design

First off, a recent image has surfaced from this year’s 2015 Toy Fair, showing a toy model of what is believed to be the design of a new dragon called the Snow Wraith.

The Snow Wraith is described as seeing only through infrared vision (making it effectively ‘blind’). While I’m willing to bet that that is what the Snow Wraith looks like, we have contacted DreamWorks Animation and we currently their word on any confirmation or clarification on the matter.

Also, remember that open thread on Berk’s Grapevine where fans could submit questions to the executive producers/showrunners of DreamWorks Dragons? Now, we finally have the answers to some of those questions from Douglas Sloan, who graciously took the time to answer them in the comment thread.

Just to save some time, here are a few highlights:

  • Dean Deblois could not be involved on a creative level with Race to the Edge, as he was incredibly busy with How to Train Your Dragon 2. However, they did continue to have regular check-in dinners with Dean to ensure that nothing in Race to the Edge conflicted with the overall continuity of the franchise.
  • Doug couldn’t confirm or deny the return of the Skrill in Race to the Edge. What he did say was that the dragon is still out there and “waiting for revenge.”
  • The island that you see in the trailer (that’s clearly not Berk) will play a huge part in Race to the Edge. My guess is that the ‘island’ will serve as a temporary headquarters for the Dragon Riders during their adventures across the ‘Edge’.
  • There are currently no plans to utilize any of Cressida Cowell’s other characters (sorry, book fans).

Most of everything else that Doug responded to was reiterating what we already know (the Dragon Eye, bridging How to Train Your Dragon 1 and 2, etc.).

With Race to the Edge being exactly 41 days away, there’s no doubt that there’s still plenty of news to come. As such, we will keep you updated.

Dragons: Race to the Edge will premiere exclusively for Netflix on June 26. Be sure to check out The DRAGONS TV Recap series here (Parts 1 and 2 of Defenders of Berk will be out next week!).

What do you think? Any thoughts on the (possible) design of the Snow Wraith? Are satisfied with the answers that Doug gave out?

EDIT: Our contact at DreamWorks Animation couldn’t confirm or deny if the picture above was the Snow Wraith. However, they will be releasing more information about the individual dragons soon.
