‘Dragons: Race to the Edge’ Will Premiere in June + New Images and Details

HicandToothRTTE

We still have a few months to wait until Dragons: Race to the Edge arrives on Netflix and we finally see more of Hiccup and the gang’s TV exploits. However, fans definitely won’t be without a good chunk of info about the show to savor while they wait.

By now, much of the WonderCon crowd that attended the DreamWorks TV panel during the convention are back home and on the Internet. These fans were generous enough to share some juicy bits of info about the footage they saw at the panel (much of this information was provided by fans on Tumblr).

Without further ado, here are descriptions of what was shown in the WonderCon footage (NOTE: Do not read this if you want to be completely surprised):

–As was predicted, the show will focus on Hiccup, Toothless, and the dragon riders exploring new areas outside Berk. Along the way, they will encounter new dragons and new enemies as well. This will all be done with the help of a new object called the “Dragon Eye”.

–According to executive producers/showrunners Art Brown and Douglas Sloan, Race to the Edge will build on the new elements introduced in How to Train Your Dragon 2. Of those new elements, Brown and Sloan specifically mentioned Stoick’s new dragon, Skullcrusher, and Hiccup’s successes and failures with developing the new flight suit.

–Dagur will return! The psychotic, axe-wielding chief of the Berserkers (and a scene-stealer in previous seasons) will reappear in Race to the Edge. How big a role he’ll have in this season is yet to be seen, but the basic gist is that, when Race to the Edge begins, Dagur has just been released from prison and is looking for revenge against Hiccup.

–There are also rumors that another character from the previous seasons could return. As for who that character might be, all signs appear to point strongly towards Heather (from the “Heather Report” two-parter in Riders of Berk).

–There will be other antagonists thrown in the mix as well, but Brown and Sloan didn’t go into much detail as who they will be.

–As mentioned before, one of the new dragons that will appear in Race to the Edge is Deathsong. The Deathsong lures its victims by way of a ‘siren song’ only to spit an amber-like substance at its prey, immobilizing them completely before eating them.

–Another new dragon we’ll see in Race to the Edge is the Snow Wraith, which can only see through infrared vision. One of the clips shown at WonderCon revealed that Gothi (the Village Elder) will have a backstory involving a Snow Wraith.

–One of the other clips shows Hiccup and Toothless free-falling (as usual) through the air, with Hiccup saying “hey” to Toothless in a calm voice.

–Fans of Hiccup and Astrid’s relationship will love the descriptions of the following clips. The first one shows both of them on a beach, watching the sunset together. The second one shows Astrid unconscious and sinking to the bottom of the ocean while Hiccup and Toothless dive down to save her. The third scene shows Astrid shoving Hiccup out of the way of the Deathsong’s amber spit, only to be trapped in it herself.

-One of the more humorous moments of the show will apparently involve Tuffnut’s relationship with a chicken.

-Several original dragons from the Dragons: Rise of Berk mobile game will also appear on the show.

-Last, but not definitely not least, one clip showcased one of the new characters: a mysterious hooded dragon rider. The fact that this individual will be in the new season is about as much as we know for now, but he or she will certainly be an interesting addition to the Dragons mythology (much like the Dragon Eye).

Without a doubt there will be more to come regarding Dragons: Race to to the Edge in the following weeks. But this new information already makes the show sound very exciting.

Dragons: Race to the Edge will premiere on Netflix in June.

What do you think? Any thoughts on the information presented thus far? Does this make you look forward to Dragons: Race to the Edge?

UPDATE: DreamWorks Animation and Netflix have just released a teaser trailer for Race to the Edge! Check it out here:

We also have a new synopsis describing the new season:

On June 26, the studio that brought you ‘How to Train Your Dragon’ unveils an all-new Netflix original series that takes Hiccup and Toothless to the edge of adventure: ‘DREAMWORKS DRAGONS: RACE TO THE EDGE’!

DreamWorks Animation and Netflix revealed the exact premiere date today — along with the first sneak peek at the exciting, action-packed opening credits.

In this new original series, premiering worldwide on June 26, Hiccup and Toothless lead the Dragon Riders as they soar beyond the borders of Berk and discover the mysterious Dragon Eye — an ancient artifact filled with secrets that will lead them to new lands filled with undiscovered dragons.  But the heroes find themselves pursued by marauding dragon hunters, who will stop at nothing to seize the power of the Dragon Eye.

Thirteen episodes of the all-new ‘ premiere exclusively on Netflix on June 26.

Stay tuned, as later in the week one of our other writers will examine the new teaser, along with even more WonderCon details to come!
