Thanks in great part to the New York International Children’s Film Festival, which is held every year around this time, we are seeing more and more domestic releases of independent animated films geared toward children and families. This year, one example is Wolfy, The Incredible Secret.  This film will make its U.S. premiere this Saturday, March 14th. Unfortunately, the film’s screening is sold out.

However, there is good news! The film will be released on DVD, Digital HD, and Video on Demand starting March 17th.

Though they’re from opposite ends of the food chain, Wolfy and Tom (a wolf and rabbit, respectively) are best friends. Wolfy has always believed he was an orphan, until one day a gypsy tells him that his mother is still alive and a person of importance in the distant dynasty of Wolfenberg, Land of the Wolves. Despite his fear of “the fanged ones,” Tom agrees to accompany his friend as they venture far from their peaceful countryside home. They arrive in the midst of Carne Festival— a grand meeting of the world’s most renowned carnivores — and Wolfy’s quest for self-discovery quickly turns into Tom’s quest for survival. This beautifully animated film is based on the wildly popular French children’s book series LouLou from writer and director Grégoire Solotareff, who also brought us our 2007 opening night film U.

Have you read the books? Will you be checking out this film when it comes out?
