A new stop-motion feature film titled Hell & Back is currently in the works by animation studio ShadowMachine who gave us Robot Chicken. The film is set to be released this year.

The film appears not to be for children, but instead is aimed towards adults and might even receive an R-rating. The plot is described on the official website as “an aggressive animated comedy about three friends and their misadventure through hell.”

LA-based studio ShadowMachine – also currently working on Guillermo Del Toro’s dark take on Pinocchio – has deemed the project to be “in the can.” Several animators on the movie were also previously involved in Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas, so we can certainly expect this film to have a creepy and dark tone.

The voice cast sound pretty impressive too. Nick Swardson, Mila Kunis, Danny McBride, Rob Riggle, T.J. Miller, Jennifer Coolidge, Bob Odenkirk, and Susan Sarandon are all involved in providing voices for the film.

What do you think of Hell & Back? Would you be interested in seeing it?
