Phil Lord and Chris Miller Give ‘LEGO Batman’ Update, Promise “Incredible” Action

The-Lego-Movie-Batman-Preview-slice

We’ve been learning a surprising amount of information about future LEGO films in a relatively short timespan, especially as we learn how these films will play out against the larger structure of an emerging cinematic universe.

One of those films is LEGO Batman, and right on the heels of having learned a major story detail about The LEGO Movie 2, we now have a few more details surrounding the filmmakers’ approach to their LEGO-ized Caped Crusader.

Recently reported by Collider (stemming from an interview by MTV News), producers Phil Lord and Chris Miller along with Batman voice actor Will Arnett were pretty careful about not giving away any spoilers; however, they did reveal one new piece of information: that the central idea will revolve around what is arguably a very familiar theme with previous iterations of the character.

“No spoilers. But I will say I think the movie is really exciting because it’s about ‘Can Batman be happy?’” Says Lord.

Again, a very familiar concept for anyone who knows the history of the character. Its also very apt considering that this version of Batman writes songs about darkness and lack of parents. Also consider that he (SPOILIERS from The LEGO Movie) ended up without a girlfriend thanks to a certain everyman who stepped up to save the day.

Lord also added that the action in the film is “incredible”. This statement was backed up by Arnett, who called the footage that he saw “mind-boggling”. It’s also worth noting that the LCU seems to be taking a more action-oriented bent than other animated films, which is great. And certainly with LEGO Batman, the action should be pretty spectacular given that he’s a superhero.

We’ll keep you updated as more information about LEGO Batman and other films in the LCU come to light.

LEGO Ninjago will hit theaters on September 23, 2016. LEGO Batman follows sometime in 2017. The LEGO Movie 2 will be in theaters sometime in 2018, and an untitled LEGO Cinematic Universe film is set to follow on May 24, 2019.

What do you think? Does this new information about LEGO Batman get you more excited about the film?
