DreamWorks Television and Netflix Set ‘The Adventure of Puss in Boots’ Premiere Date

Netflix Inc Puss in Boots

Four years after the character was given his own feature-length adventure (and three years before he returns to the big-screen once again), Puss in Boots is getting his own TV show. And the good news? You won’t have to wait long to see it.

Variety reported yesterday that Netflix has set a premiere date for its new original series The Adventures of Puss in Boots.

The first five 22-minute episodes will premiere on January 16 (next Friday!). These episodes will be available to Netflix users in the U.S., Canada, Latin America, UK, Ireland, the Nordics, Benelux and France. Much like DreamWorks Animation’s other Netflix shows (Turbo FAST, VeggieTales in the House, and All Hail King Julian), new episodes will debut throughout the year.

Here’s the series synopsis:

‘The Adventures of Puss in Boots’ finds the feline in the hidden city of San Lorenzo, a mythical land invisible to the outside world thanks to a magical spell the protects its inhabitants, and its wonderous treasure. When Puss in Boots accidentally breaks the spell, the must do more than fight off an endless legion of invaders and marauders – he must become a legend.

“Action, comedy, adventure and heart combine with a dazzling visual style to make The Adventures of Puss in Boots both unique and timeless,” said Margie Cohn, head of television for Dreamworks Animation. “Puss is a hero for the ages. With a cold glass of leche in one hand and his sword in the other, there’s nothing that could get in the way of this swashbuckling hero … except hairballs.”

Cindy Holland, vice president of original content at Netflix, adds, “Each episode is an exciting fantasy-adventure, which makes watching The Adventures of Puss in Boots an event the whole family will enjoy.”

The Adventures of Puss in Boots is the fourth TV show to join DreamWorks Animation’s lineup on Netflix (see shows above). Also joining it this year is Dinotrux and the third season of DreamWorks Dragons.

The voice cast is comprised of Eric Bauza (“The Book of Life”), Jayma Mays (“Glee”), Laraine Newman (“Doc McStuffins”) and Joshua Rush (“Mr. Peabody & Sherman”). Guest stars include John Leguizamo (“Ice Age”), Danny Trejo (“Machete”), Maria Bamford (“The Legend of Korra”), John Rhys-Davies (“Lord of the Rings”), Robbie Rist (“Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles”) and Jim Cummings (“Winnie the Pooh”). While it’s currently unknown who voices who, Bauza has been confirmed as the voice of Puss (in place of Antonio Banderas).

The Adventures of Puss in Boots will premiere next Friday on January 16. Puss in Boots: Nine Lives and Forty Thieves will bow in theaters on December 21, 2018.

What do you think? If you have Netflix, will you watch?
