Welcome to another update in our Best Animated Feature series. This time, we bring you exciting news of one of this year’s big animated features once again walking home with the gold.
Not long after winning the animated film award for Best Score at this year’s Hollywood Music in Media awards, How to Train Your Dragon 2 had struck gold again, winning the Hollywood Animation Award at this year’s Hollywood Film Awards.
Having been held ever since 1997, this awards show was televised for the first time ever last Friday on CBS and was hosted by Queen Latifah. No known nominations were disclosed publicly, but being that this was a Pixar-less year, it could have gone to just about anyone. So it certainly says something when it went to what currently remains the most highest-grossing and best-reviewed animated film of the year.
For those who are interested, here is the video of the award being given. Presented by Jennifer Lopez (who hilariously stumbles on her words in the beginning) and followed by a great acceptance speech by Gerald Butler (who played Stoick):
While not an animation-related award, it’s also worth mentioning that Janelle Monae did win the Hollywood Song Award for the single “What is Love”, which was featured in Rio 2.
With now two awards already under its belt, How to Train Your Dragon 2 is very much on the path to something of a hot streak through this awards season. But do keep in mind that we are only weeks away from the Oscars and the Annies, where the film will face off against strong competition in the form of The Lego Movie, Big Hero 6, The Book of Life, and The Boxtrolls.
We’ll keep things updated as we move further into the awards season. Also, stay tuned near the end of this month for a look at Feinberg’s projections in the month of November!
What are your thoughts? Are you glad this film won?
